La statue “AnythingToSay dédiée aux lanceurs d’alerte Edward Snowden, Chelsea Manning ainsi qu’à Julian Assange sera en même temps installée sur la jetée des Pâquis face au Jet d’eau de Genève.     Le fondateur de WikiLeaks Julian Assange, actuellement en isolement cellulaire à la prison de haute sécurité de Belmarsh à Londres, fait l’objet d’une demande d’extradition des Etats-Unis où il risque une condamnation à 175 ans de prison pour violation de la loi sur l’espionnage (Espionage Act). Un premier refus de l’extrader, prononcé le 4 janvier dernier par la justice britannique, était uniquement motivé par le risque de suicide du prévenu dans le système carcéral américain et fait actuellement l’objet d’un recours.   L’état de santé de Julian Assange s’est gravement détérioré. Selon Nils Melzer, les conditions d’emprisonnement du rédacteur en chef de WikiLeaks relèvent “de la torture psychologique, de traitement cruels, inhumains ou dégradants. Julian Assange n’a d’autre tort que d’avoir dit la vérité”. Les accusations portées contre l’Australien de 49 ans constituent une grave atteinte à la liberté de la presse. Toute condamnation confirmerait un acte de censure et un précédent aux conséquences alarmantes pour l’ensemble des médias et pour le bon fonctionnement de la démocratie. L’Appel de Genève qui comprend six exigences sera rendu public et ouvert à signature le 4 juin sur www.pressclub.ch.    Inauguration publique de la statue AnythingToSay  Installée sur la jetée des Pâquis, face au Jet d’eau, la sculpture de Davide Dormino AnythingToSay? représentant les lanceurs d’alerte Edward Snowden, Chelsea Manning ainsi que Julian Assange sera officiellement inaugurée le samedi 5 juin, soit le lendemain du lancement de l’Appel de Genève. Nombre d’éminents invités prendront part à l’inauguration.    L’association des usagers des Bains des Pâquis, initiatrice et organisatrice de l’événement, présentera également une exposition sur les lanceurs d’alerte et animera un débat à 18h. Tout au long de la journée, le public pourra manifester sa solidarité et chacun pourra s’installer tour à tour sur la statue à la place dévolue au citoyen.  (Les mesures sanitaires en vigueur seront strictement appliquées)    Contexte de la mobilisation de Genève pour Assange  Le 4 janvier dernier, la justice britannique a refusé de procéder à l’extradition de Julian Assange vers les Etats-Unis où il est la cible de 18 actes d’accusations dont 17 pour violation de la loi sur l’espionnage (Espionage Act) datant de plus de 100 ans. Les quelque 700’000 documents classifiés et rendus publics par Julian Assange, souvent en collaboration avec des médias, ont notamment révélé le massacre en 2007 d’une dizaine de civils dont deux journalistes par l’armée américaine. La vidéo de cette attaque menée par hélicoptère, a été diffusée en 2010 avec un retentissement mondial.    Genève est le siège du Conseil des droits de l’homme et d’innombrables organisations internationales comme non gouvernementales (ONG) pour la défense des droits humains, de la  liberté d’expression et de la liberté de la presse. Eminent personalities will take part to the inauguration. The 700,000 or so classified documents made public by Julian Assange, often in collaboration with the media, have revealed the massacre in 2007 of a dozen civilians, including two journalists, by the US army. The video of this attack carried out by helicopter was broadcast in 2010 with worldwide repercussions.    Geneva is the seat of the Human Rights Council and of countless international and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) for the defense of human rights, freedom of expression and freedom of the press. Dès le 5 juin à 11h00 Association des usagers-x-ères des Bains des Pâquis a le plaisir d’accueillir, en collaboration avec le Club suisse de la presse, l’oeuvre publique #Anything to Say? créée par l’artiste italien Davide Dormino.

Ce monument en bronze représente, debout sur trois chaises, les célèbres lanceurs d’alerte Julian Assange, Edward Snowden et Chelsea Manning, devenus des icônes mondiales de la liberté d’expression. La sculpture interpelle et invite les personnes à se lever sur la quatrième chaise libre pour y prendre position.

Pour célébrer l’événement, plusieurs personnalités nous font l’honneur de prendre la parole lors du discours d’inauguration. Ces mêmes invités participeront à l’Appel de Genève, lancé par le Club suisse de la presse, pour réclamer la libération de Julian Assange.
