I am X, a Saoudian lawyer and a human activist and I represent my clients to the official courts of justice in my country when political issues exist. Unfortunately I can no longer practice my work as a lawyer, the government prevents me to talk about human rights abuse and this is against every international conventions and local agreements that must be respected. I ask all countries including Saoudia to respect the existing conventions and the local laws in order to prevent unfair judgments leading to extreme sanctions and disproportionate punishments. This is against our “dustoor” rules and other countries do not allow such practices. I am here to inform countries and I request Saoudia to respect the human rights, the civil rights and also the economic rights. Indeed people are arrested for political reasons and sometime disappear. I request transparence in the judgments and the possibility of defense. No hidden decisions, no simulated justice process and no fake proofs. Prosecutors should not use false arguments, create proofs to condemn people and take extreme decisions and punishments. This is against the Islamic Charia. We have “dustoor”, Coran and Sourates in Saoudia and they respect the human rights, unfortunately there are some laws, such as the laws for terrorism that bypass the human rights. Political issues are mixed in terrorism affairs and the lawyers are not authorized or have no action in courts, the rights are not respected and I ask all lawyers to convince Saoudia to change this situation. Thank you.
Je suis X, un avocat saoudien et un activiste humain, et je représente mes clients devant les tribunaux officiels de mon pays lorsque des problèmes politiques se posent. Malheureusement, je ne peux plus exercer mon métier d'avocat, le gouvernement m'empêche de parler des violations des droits de l'homme et cela va à l'encontre de toutes les conventions internationales et des accords locaux qui doivent être respectés. Je demande à tous les pays, y compris l'Arabie Saoudite, de respecter les conventions existantes et les lois locales afin d'éviter que des jugements injustes n'entraînent des sanctions extrêmes et des peines disproportionnées. Cela va à l'encontre de nos règles traditionnelles "dusttoor" et d'autres pays n'autorisent pas de telles pratiques. Je suis ici pour informer les pays et je demande à mon pays de respecter les droits de l'homme, les droits civils et aussi les droits économiques. En effet, des personnes sont arrêtées pour des raisons politiques et parfois disparaissent. Je demande la transparence dans les jugements et la possibilité de se défendre. Pas de décisions cachées, pas de processus de justice simulé et pas de fausses preuves. Les procureurs ne devraient pas utiliser de faux arguments, créer des preuves pour condamner les gens et prendre des décisions et des sanctions extrêmes. Cela va à l'encontre de la Charia islamique. Nous avons "dusttoor", Coran et Sourates en Arabie Saoudite et ils respectent les droits de l'homme, malheureusement il y a certaines lois, comme les lois pour le terrorisme qui contournent les droits de l'homme. Les questions politiques sont mélangées dans les affaires de terrorisme et les avocats ne sont pas autorisés ou n'ont pas d'action devant les tribunaux, les droits ne sont pas respectés et je demande à tous les avocats de convaincre l' Arabie Saoudite de changer cette situation. On the occasion of 43rd session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, No Peace Without Justice (NPWJ) together with the International Film Festival and Forum on Human Rights (FIFDH) have the pleasure to invite you to a panel discussion on “Human Rights Crisis in Saudi Arabia” to be held at the Geneva Press Club on Tuesday 10 March 2020 at 9:00 am – 11:00 am.
Freedom of expression and freedom from torture or cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment, are essential building blocks of a democratic society. Suppression of dissent by any State power violates the freedom of its own citizens in a flagrant breach of international human rights. Equally, holding people in degrading and inhuman ways, and in the worst case, torturing them is unacceptable for any UN member state.
